Young David is right: “The battle is the Lord’s.” As we struggle to proclaim the gospel and to
reconnect humanity with its God, it’s good to repeat the wisdom of David: The battle
is the Lord’s. And it’s a battle the
Lord does not shy away from.
He didn’t tiptoe around the Pharisees. He went right up to them, and did good things
right in front of them in order to test their hearts. He never did (and never does) shrink from the
worthy fight. And the struggle to
transform culture from the inside out is a worthy one.
As we Catholics go up against commercialism, consumerism,
atheism . . . all those “isms” that infect our culture, we remember that the
battle is the Lord’s. He alone is our
strength, our rock, our inspiration.
With him by our side—or, rather, with us by his side—we needn’t
fear the Goliaths of our time.
