Homily for 7 Nov 2015

7 Nov 2015

“God does not require that we be successful, only that we be faithful.”  That seems to be the gist of what Jesus is saying today.  If we can be faithful in small matters, we can be trusted with bigger things.

If we can be faithful to the ordinariness of our daily prayers, we can be trusted with something bigger: a deepening relationship with our God.  If we can be faithful to the strengths and abilities God gives us, we can be trusted with an increase in the responsibility and joy of sharing those gifts.

If we can be faithful to the little things of our life of faith, then we can enter into something bigger: into the fulfillment of our life of faith—eternal joy, peace and happiness with our God, and all the faithful departed, angels and saints.  God does not require that we be successful, only that we be faithful [cf. Mother Theresa].  Of course, to be faithful in the little things is to be successful, in the eyes of God.
