So much of Christian living is understated. We try to love God and love our neighbors as
we should. But it’s not anything we do
to get attention. We don’t act with
charity in order to be noticed; we do it because it’s just the right thing to
do. As we say at every Mass, “It is
right and just.”
And we get that mindset from God himself, in whose image we’re
made. God does more for us than we can
ever imagine. And, yet, he doesn’t seek
the limelight. He doesn’t demand
attention. And whether or not he gets
it, God keeps on doing what is “right and just.”
Of course, it’s still nice to hear a “thank you” every now
and then. And it’s good to say “thank
you” too. As we celebrate the Eucharist,
we remember that we’re here primarily to offer thanks to God. And, in return, he helps us to keep our eyes
and hearts more open, to see and enjoy all the good things he does for us.
Thanks be to God, our Almighty… and quietly generous, loving
God.
